A recognised and celebrated name throughout the Central Desert, Desert Mulga Band is the quintessential desert reggae band. Formed in 1998, Desert Mulga Band are defined by their wailing guitar solos, upbeat drums, an incessant off-beat ‘skank’ on rhythm guitar and rich retro synth lines.

Desert Mulga Band has recorded music at Warlpiri Media and CAAMA Music, as well as in their home community of Nyirrpi. A range of the band’s songs have been featured on albums Tanami Tracks and Yapa Beats I & II, the Samson & Delilah official soundtrack and CAAMA Music’s compilation album, Snapshot I.

The band won first prize at the Yuendumu Road Safety Song Contest in 2011 and performed at the Bush Bands Bash in 2010 and 2012. 2015 saw Desert Mulga Band released their first full length album Tangapa Yanu on CAAMA Music’s new label, Therrka.
