Recoil profiles some recent significant developments in contemporary fibre practice especially among Aboriginal women in remote communities. The publication discusses the little known history of coiling, its origins, spread and diversification especially among remote communities, and the creative exchanges between Indigenous and non-Indigenous textile artists that have fuelled these developments. To highlight these intercultural exchanges the work of thirteen Aboriginal and three Western artists is profiled.
